WHY RIVERSTONE EXISTS

A place built for community doesn't stop being that just because the audience changes.

Camp Canaan has been a place of gathering, growth, and community on this island since 2004. For years, families and young people have crossed the bridge onto this property and left changed by what they found here. The land has always had that effect on people. It's the kind of place that does something to you before you even understand why.

Riverstone was built to extend that gift to a new audience. Professional teams, organizational leaders, nonprofits, and community groups now have access to a purpose-built gathering space on the same island, designed from the ground up to serve the kind of work that only happens when people step away from the ordinary.

The decision to build Riverstone was also a practical one. Sustaining a property like Camp Canaan, maintaining it at the level it deserves, and expanding what it can offer, takes real investment. Riverstone makes that possible. Every group that gathers here's, in a small way, part of what keeps this island alive for the generations of campers who'll come after them. That connection isn't incidental. It's part of the point.

Hospitality isn't a feature of Riverstone. It's the foundation. Every decision about how this space operates, how it's maintained, and how guests are treated comes back to one simple commitment: your group should feel genuinely cared for from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.

Riverstone is a brand new facility and we intend to keep it that way. The building is maintained to a high standard before every gathering. Clean floors, working equipment
& outdoor areas that are tended and welcoming.

Camp Canaan has operated on this island since 2004. Founded by Jim and Aana Lisa Whatley, it began as a vision to create a place where young people could experience community, growth, and the kind of transformation that happens when you put people in a beautiful natural setting and get out of the way. That vision has grown into a thriving camp and retreat property that's touched thousands of lives over the years.

At its heart, Camp Canaan exists to serve people. That value didn't disappear when Riverstone was built. It became the foundation for a new kind of gathering, one designed for professionals and organizations rather than summer campers, but rooted in the same belief that meaningful community requires intentional space.

Riverstone guests share the island with that legacy. It's not something you can see on a floor plan, but most groups feel it. There's a reason this piece of land has been a place of gathering for as long as it has.
